How you know you are doing a good job Homeschooling your Children

June 21

I read this really great post today on Guilt-Free Homeschooling that I wanted to share with you. The author writes about 10 signs that you know you are doing a good job as a Homeschooling Parent. Here is a little snip-it:

Understanding Your Preschooler’s Imaginary Friends

June 19

We are always wondering if our children are “normal”. We don’t mean to do it, but nevertheless, it’s something that we do all of the time. From the time that we first count those ten toes and ten fingers, we’re subconsciously (or consciously) comparing our kids to some ideal standard of what is “normal” and wondering how they measure up. And when it comes to areas of life that aren’t so easy to understand, we often have trouble figuring out what’s “normal” and how to deal with it. Often, this is the case when it comes to imaginary friends.

Building Self Confidence in your Child

June 12

Children who truly believe that they can do anything they set their minds to are the children who grow up to succeed at all levels of life. It’s that belief in one’s self that lets them take appropriate risks, deal with challenges and learn to navigate the ins and outs of life. And there is no person in the world who can build that self confidence (or destroy it) like you can. If you want to have a child who does well in life (and what parent doesn’t right?), then you need to watch your own behavior and interaction with your child, making sure to maximize his or her self-confidence in every way that you can.

Social Skills and the Homeschooled Preschooler

June 9

There is a myth which is widely associated with the homeschooled student and that myth is that he is going to have difficulty developing normal social skills. It’s true that children learn social skills primarily in the school environment, but this doesn’t have to be the only place that kids can learn how to socialize with peers and non-relatives. What a parent needs to realize is that children DO need to learn social skills by interacting with others outside of the home but that there are many different ways that this can be done.

Key Phrases That Teach Children Manners

May 30

Manners are something that we all want our kids to have and something which can be very elusive to teach. We all know a well-mannered child when we see one but it can be difficult to identify exactly what it means for a child to have good manners, especially at different stages of development and in varying social circumstances. While there are many different things which go into learning manners, these are the basic phrases that your child should be able to use appropriately in any situation to have the basics of good manners:

Your Child Learns Anger Management From You

May 25

As soon as your child is old enough to feel the emotion of anger, you are going to start wondering how to help her learn anger management skills. There will be books to read, counseling classes to take and plenty of friends and acquaintances to get advice from about the best methods of making sure your child learns how to control her anger. These tools are all important; but in the end, your child is going to learn how to control her anger by watching how you control yours. Modeling positive anger management is the best method of making sure your child learns how to behave appropriately when she gets mad.

Why Preschools Have Circle Time

May 24

Nearly every preschool program that there is has a circle time. This is the time when the entire class sits together in one large circle and engages in a group activity. It’s a fun time and something which most kids look forward to during their preschool days. But why is that all preschools have this circle time? Basically, circle time allows teachers to better manage their classrooms and teach broad topics to a large number of kids while allowing children to learn important social skills in the classroom.
