Teaching your Child about the Environment - Blog Action Day 2007

October 15

Your children are going to inherit the earth that we are living on today so you obviously want it to be as healthy as it can possibly be for them. Although it’s great that you’re doing your part to take care of the environment, it’s equally as important that you teach your children about the environment. If they learn form an early age about the importance of taking care of the environment and the ways that they can do so, they’ll be more likely to carry that behavior on into later years. Additionally, if they can do their part to help care for the environment now, they will feel productive and involved which helps to build self-esteem.

Preparing Your Child To Start Preschool

August 27

No parent is ever ready for the day that their child goes off to preschool. But that doesn’t mean that your preschooler can’t be ready. Even if you’re nervous about the separation, you should do your best to make sure that your child is prepared to head off to preschool when the time is right. You want to do well as a parent and part of this means giving your child the tools to go off on his own, even if it’s just for a few hours at preschool. And by preparing your child both educationally and emotionally for the preschool experience, you’ll help to quell your own fears about the situation.

Here are some of the things that you need to do when preparing your child to start preschool:

Children and Prejudice - Teach your Child the Natural Way

August 24

Have you ever been in the awkward position of having your child make a prejudiced statement in front of other parents? This is mortifying for most adults because they want others to believe that they are teaching their children right from wrong when it comes to the important issue of prejudice in our society. But when you step away from the situation and get your ego out of the picture, you’ll usually find that your child had no bad intentions and that the statement doesn’t actually reflect poorly on your social teaching skills. Instead, it reflects on the fact that your young child is noticing differences in the people around her and she wants to know what that’s all about. Each opportunity that comes up – whether awkward or simply mundane – should be thought of as an opportunity to teach your children about prejudice.

Preschool Online – Using The Internet To Teach Your Child

August 4

The Internet has changed education. It has changed the way that research is done. It has changed the sheer amount of information that both parents and students have access to. And it has changed the way that parents help their children learn. So if you haven’t gotten used to using the Internet to teach your child, you’d better jump on the bandwagon. This tool is here to stay and you’ll want to start in the preschool years to make sure that your child’s educational foundation is well-laid in those early years.

But where do you start with using the Internet to teach your preschooler? After all, there is such a vast amount of information on the Internet and it often has conflicting information and confusing approaches to preschool education. You’re sure that some of it’s great and you’re equally sure that some of it is probably not good for your preschooler at all. Summer Party Ideas For Kids

August 1

Summer is a terrific time of year but it can also feel like a long season. This is especially true for parents who are home with their kids all day because the days of summer are long and it’s sometimes hard to fill them with enough activities to keep everyone entertained and happy. If your kids are of school age, they probably want to have friends come over to play and then you’ve got the problem of additional kids who are complaining that they’re bored during the hottest hours of the day. You can pick just about any theme and run with it for planning your summer kids’ party, but here are some ideas to get you started:
