Take Your Preschooler on a Hike

October 3

Fall is a great month to take your preschooler on a hike. Hikes are great because of the obvious physical exercise that they give to your child. They are also a terrific way to teach kids about nature. Kids can learn to interact appropriately with the plants and animals that live in your area and can gain an appreciation for the world around them. Hikes can also be used for many different lessons including teaching the skill of observation, learning about the culture of people who once lived in the area where you are hiking and starting to understand about the weather and terrain. Plus, taking your preschooler on a hike is a great bonding experience.

Playgroups

July 31

What are playgroups and why are they good for you and your kids? Well, although there are many different kinds of playgroups (from the formal which includes themes and scheduled activities to the information that just gathers together), they are all basically the same thing: a group of children and their parents who get together on a regular basis. That’s it. It doesn’t have to be anything fancier than that, just an agreement between a group that you’re all going to get together regularly so your kids can enjoy playtime together.

Family Time - 5 Ideas for Making Time for Family

July 27
We all lead busy lives. Even those of us who try to simplify often have more multi-tasking going on than we would like to admit. We’re always only half-listening to the stories that our kids tell us while we’re simultaneously checking email, scheduling appointments, planning our next kids’ party or taking care of daily chores. Often, we barely see our spouse in passing as we hand off the kids to get a little adult alone time – even if it’s just a quick bath. It often feels like a necessary situation to getting everything taken care of that needs to be done on any given day.

But what really matters more; that the laundry all got done and folded or that you got to spend some time with the people that you love? Making time for your family is not only possible, it’s necessary. And it doesn’t take another twenty four hours in the day to manage it. It just takes a little bit of organization, a willingness to let a few things go sometimes in order to be with your family and the will to make it work.

Here are some ideas for making time for your family which you might find helpful if you’re starting to feel like you never really hear your kids and never really see your spouse:

I came across an interesting site while I was surfing the Web today. The site is called H.E.L.M. Travel. H.E.L.M. stands for Home Educated Learn More while Traveling. Basically, it is a
