There aren’t too many holidays in between Independence Day and Halloween so we sometimes have to struggle to find fun themed projects for kids during those months. But that’s because many of us forget Labor Day. Although it’s a holiday that gives working parents the day off and school kids a Monday break, we usually don’t think of Labor Day is a celebratory affair. But maybe we should. Labor Day is something that it would be good to teach kids about. Besides, it gives us an extra holiday to plan teaching projects around!

Lap Books - A Great Tool to Teach Your Child Preschool at Home

August 9

LapBooks are a terrific part of a good home preschool program. Lapbooks combine all of the work done in a single subject area to really pull it together for your child. They can be reviewed at later dates to make sure that learning is cumulatively building itself. But more than this, they give your preschooler (and older kids as well) something to look at where they can see their progress. This can be a great source of pride which allows children to be more successful in their learning over the long run. And they’re fun for you to put together with your child; they basically take the joy of scrapbooking and apply it to education.

August 1

Summer is a terrific time of year but it can also feel like a long season. This is especially true for parents who are home with their kids all day because the days of summer are long and it’s sometimes hard to fill them with enough activities to keep everyone entertained and happy. If your kids are of school age, they probably want to have friends come over to play and then you’ve got the problem of additional kids who are complaining that they’re bored during the hottest hours of the day. Most of the time, the summer is great, but if you need to shake a little bit of fun into it to get the excitement back then you might think about planning a Summer Party.

You can pick just about any theme and run with it for planning your summer kids’ party, but here are some ideas to get you started:

Family Time - 5 Ideas for Making Time for Family

July 27
We all lead busy lives. Even those of us who try to simplify often have more multi-tasking going on than we would like to admit. We’re always only half-listening to the stories that our kids tell us while we’re simultaneously checking email, scheduling appointments, planning our next kids’ party or taking care of daily chores. Often, we barely see our spouse in passing as we hand off the kids to get a little adult alone time – even if it’s just a quick bath. It often feels like a necessary situation to getting everything taken care of that needs to be done on any given day.

Family Fun Book

But what really matters more; that the laundry all got done and folded or that you got to spend some time with the people that you love? It just takes a little bit of organization, a willingness to let a few things go sometimes in order to be with your family and the will to make it work.

Here are some ideas for making time for your family which you might find helpful if you’re starting to feel like you never really hear your kids and never really see your spouse:
